My name is Shelby Lutz. My favorite subject in school is English/Literature. Most of my time is spent doing homework, working, or spending time with my small, but lovely family. I love reading, although I struggle to find time to actually sit down and read a book I am interested in. I consider myself a Buddhist because of my beliefs. Although, there is a fairly large difference in knowing and believing. I am not sure that reincarnation is real, but I would like to believe that we are reincarnated when we die. There is no true way of knowing this for sure, but I can base my beliefs on things I have witnessed in my life, emotion, and/or science. This is what I have learned so far in TOK, which is basically how to rationally approach my own knowledge claims.
I think that any intelligent person questions their own beliefs and should base their beliefs off of valid information and not just emotions or intuition. I would like to learn more about how beliefs and knowledge claims affect our lives. I believe that this class is important because it basically teaches us how to think rationally which is very important in our daily lives. We all may not use algebra every day in the future, but I can guarantee that rational thinking will be very useful in our day to day lives.
