MAY 18 -GRADUATION
"A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots."
Theory of Knowledge helped us grow and metamorphosis our roots and implement the TOK skills to create a strong character and a balance human being. TOK Class of 2016 graduated from Bosse High School on May 2016 but, I as student feel that I still have a long way to go before I can fully endorse or conceive all the TOK principles correctly. But, all of us will agree that we have learned how to implement TOK on our everyday life and transcendent our experience.
Our TOK class started off 8 students. Four boys and four girls, but we lost a member and only three girls remained. But, this was no ordinary group. For example, one of my best buddy was a fitness freak, another was creative to say the least as he was a New Yorkian and immensely talented in literature and music, and my third buddy was the dark horse of the group known for his remarkable computer skills (I am not talking about Powerpoint or Excel but rather C/C++ and Linux Programming skills). The girls of our group was immensely talented as well, for instance, one of them was an artist, who could paint with an extremely vivid imagination and drew the most impeccable drawing I have ever seen (I am not a person who like painting or sculptures but I was truly intrigued by some of her paintings). Another girl was different is a way that she followed a religion that was different from the rest of the group, we were able to learn about it and immense ourselves in a different culture while sitting in our classroom box, the third member of this girl team was a disciplinarian from her we learned the value of timely planning (honestly, I still do things last minute). Then, I, who is from an entirely different country, who follow different customs, language and religion was also able to provide certain different aspect in the TOK class.
The above paragraph would show; how diverse our class was. The beauty of this class is that it is not a mixing bowl that takes every different quality and mixes them into the same batter which has everything "standardized" but rather it is a salad bowl which helps us co-exist in a peaceful fashion while helping us retain our original qualities and tastes. The beauty of this class is that but this class me absorb the valuable qualities of my folks and it enriched my experience that I garnered from them. This class gave us valuable lessons but most important lesson was to look at things from different perspective. Did this class change all of my previous biases and beliefs? No, but it did change some of them and strengthen others. We had so many great discussion, and heated ones too. But, those discussions made us realize our own fallacies and our strengths that we were not previous aware about.
In this class we surely learned the physical implementation of the quote “Every stranger you meet, has something to teach you”, and each of them surely did.
All said and done, this class would not have flourished without the directions and guidance of our trusted mentor Mrs. Paula Boenigk. Her vast experience helped give direction to the course and also experience too. Mrs. Boenigk loved us so much that she also graduated with us. All of us are going to college and most importantly, into the stream that we love and cherish. I and the Computer Geek are going to college for Computer Engineering and Computer Science program respectively. New Yorkian is going to California to pursue his dream of arts and Mr.Physical Fitness is moving to Florida to pursue his dream as a fitness trainer . The talented artist is going to art school, the pretty monk is going to school to become the English teacher and their third pal is going to school for sports marketing. At the end, we all made it through TOK and are pursuing our dreams with our full extent.
We did certain great projects in that class and discussions as well as read certain great books and plays. Doubt , Bang Bang You are Dead, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks are some of the great literature we have read. Some great movie as Doubt, Temple Grandin (Caution: advised for people who consider cow religiously sacred) , Imitation Game, You Don't Know Jack , Lost Boys of Sudan, Bridge of Spies and Theory of Everything. Some great discussion about Feminism, how much information should be children be exposed to, mind vs brain, Was Joker the Villain of Batman or the Hero, the legality of the leaf, ethical and legal disputes about euthanasia, abortion; the legal ramifications behind Eastern Germany and U-2 Spy planes are just few examples of the broad range of discussions we had.
A feeling of nostalgia takes over my mind as I write this article as it makes me remember of the 1000 word journals that I had to write weekly. That is going to be filled with so many memories and feelings that cannot be described by any word in the prescribed dictionary. But, I feel pleased that I took that class as that class gave me perspective that I did not had before and it would have taken me a lifetime(hyperbole) to develop those in the real world.
Guess, this is my last article but I wanted to give a closure to the site (www.bossetok.weebly.com) as I am the creator of this website, and I have certain responsibilities towards it (A quality created by TOK class). The future of this website is certain --It will STAY ACTIVE--and we will continue to post our journey through life into this website. This website will give us a reflection of how me evolved as humans and discover and sometimes rediscover ourselves during the great desert of sands of time.
